Random Game Concept #2

Quite a simple post, this time around - A bit Ironic since I mentioned doing bigger things from now on.
In all honesty, though, this was mostly done to uphold my new year's resolution - to make at least one thing a week. I had another project planned out but I feared that it would be too big (and most importantly, too boring) for me to be properly invested in.

I found that doing something different, but not necessarily bigger, was a good way to change things around without risking slowing down my pace, and the one project of mine that would fit that is an old one.

If you've paid attention to the things I've published here - first, if you exist, thanks! - you've seen my first random game concept. That old action platformer with a black & white aesthetic of an old dystopia. That concept was really cool, and the experience always made me want to go back to it and do more. My hiccup with the idea, however, was that I arbitrarily decided to pick a random concept and *run with it.* Second one was interesting - a western tower defense focused on liquids - but it just didn't click as well. I had trouble coming up with an aesthetic I liked, so the whole idea never bore fruit despite how much I tried.

Well, when I decided that letting a RANDOM FACTOR be set in stone was a bad idea, I tried again last week. The result was a survival game set in a jungle with spooky aspects. It was something more exciting - as well as something I'd actually like to do - which meant I actually did something quite nice with it, if you ask me. I consider that a big deal, by the way, it's not often that I come out of a project with genuine satisfaction at something (this case it was the grass and dirt tiling, I've never felt confident at making those from previous attempts).

On a complete sidenote, I absolutely love how large these artwork descriptions can be. It's not something I can reasonably do anywhere else, and it's good to put all my thoughts into "paper" every now and then. I know I haven't actually talked about anything personal, but simply writing reasonable descriptions of what I make allows me to find positives in pieces that I'd eventually grow to distaste. It's been great fun writing these, if I weren't a pixel artist first, I would probably be a writer.

Quite a simple and clean design, I feel. Particularly fond of how GOOD the master system palette really is when you get the opportunity to use it's colors properly. this would also run on real hardware, too!
